Fort Morgan is situated at Mobile Bay, which is an inlet at the Gulf of Mexico. The fort played an important role during the War of 1812 and the American Civil War and is listed as a National Historic Landmark. This was our first time staying in Fort Morgan and we loved it. We stayed for over a week and enjoyed every bit of the vacation. Fort Morgan was finished in 1834 and designed by French Engineer Simon Bernard. Couples can tie the knot in the parade ground, under the brick archways, or on top of the fort with the Sand Island lighthouse and the Gulf of Mexico in the background. By comparison, it seems much cleaner than other beaches, especially the Ft. Morgan area that as of yet has not been overrun with large volume condos and surf shops.
